What happened?
Handover Note which entails what the person that is handed over tasks needs to know before continuing the work was required to be added in Handover Documents as a daily task, however, it was not added by end of the day.
Why did it happen?
- Subjective Reason:
- Skimming: The term “Handover Note” is very similar to the existing column called “Note.” This similarity caused me to skim over the details, assuming they were referring to the same thing. Even though more information was provided about the Handover Note, it focused on the style of writing, leading me to think it was just an extension of what the existing “Note” already covered.
- Lack of Clarity: If the reason behind each task was clearer, I might have caught the need for the Handover Note when I initially received the task. I didn’t fully understand why we needed to update more notes, which led to the oversight.
- Bad Daily Update: Daily Update is a way to organise tasks to be done on a day, and esp we need to be absolutely clear on what is done, for what reason. I fail to do so on daily updates.
- Objective Reason:
- Should have use a different terms for new column
What next?
- Read the tasks more carefully, pay attention to keywords and assume all terms are new.
- Think of each task in terms of the big picture to understand why we are doing it, hence allowing catching misunderstanding.
- Write better daily update: spend more time on it, ask more question for each task given
